History

Bradford on Film teaser

Whether you are a born and bred Bradfordian, or a newcomer to this great city, then don’t miss the opportunity to be part of the ‘Bradford on Film’ archive screening. This flagship Bradford Cathedral Centenary event is brought to you by the Yorkshire Film Archive who have delved into their vaults to curate a special journey through Bradford’s rich film heritage.

From early moving image pioneers to local filmmaking companies, amateur productions to regional television programmes, ‘Bradford on Film’ reveals the sights, sounds, faces, places, changing landscapes and industries, great events and everyday lives of people in Bradford from the 1890s to the 1990s.

Music

Our organ recital season continues every Wednesday with Leonard Sanderman from York playing on the 2nd October, followed in subsequent weeks by Sean Montgomery from Hebden Bridge, the Augustiner-Kantorei from Erfurt as part of their Yorkshire tour (see below), our very own Graham Thorpe and Chris Totney from Devizes. Entry is free, with an optional buffet from 12:30pm, with the recital starting at 1pm.

Yorkshire Choirs Festival

The boys’ choirs of Bradford, Ripon and Wakefield cathedrals come together for the Yorkshire Choirs Festival, with a recital at 1:30pm on Saturday 5th October and a very special Evensong at 3:30pm.

This month our Coffee Concert programme continues, and we welcome František Brikcius on Tuesday 8th October. You can enjoy refreshments from 10:30am and the free performance from 11am. We host The Fruit of Silence from City of London Sinfonia on Saturday 12th October, a beautiful event which will see their orchestra and our choir perform throughout the building in an experience that must be seen to be believed. As well as appearing at our organ recital on the 16th October, the Augustiner-Kantorei will be singing at the cathedral’s Eucharist on Sunday 13th October. Learn more about their whole Yorkshire tour on our blog piece.

Art and Exhibitions

The Common Threads team

Chris Czainski’s By the Hand of… Icons, contemporary and traditional continues at the cathedral until Sunday 20th October.

From Wednesday 23rd October you can see Alive with Change from Common Threads, a celebration of the cathedral’s place in the city and Bradford’s history of textiles. The VCS

On Wednesday 16th October the Revd Canon Professor Ben Squash will be talking about The Visual Commentary on Scripture project. Book your free place today online and find out more on our blog.

Chris Swift

The Eucharist for St Lukestide takes place on Sunday 20th October with the Revd Chris Swift as our preacher.

On Sunday 6th October you can meet Mama Samira and Mama Hewaya at Light of Jesus – Seen Across Sudan at 10:15am.

Care for the World

EcoExtravaganza

On Saturday 19th October we open our doors for the EcoExtravaganza where you can find out how you can make a change as a church, as a community group or at home. There will be children’s activities, guest speakers, a film, worship and Fairtrade food. Reserve your free place on Eventbrite.

Alpha Course

Alpha

The weekly 90-minute session takes place at 5:30pm every Wednesday and it’s a relaxed and information way to explore the Christian Faith. Everyone is welcome to join the sessions, and each week begins with a meal. To book: info@bradfordcathedral.org.

Our family activities return on Tuesday 29th and Thursday 31st October where there will be craft and colouring activities and guided tours, plus lots more to be announced. Reserve your place today!

Saying Goodbye

Saying Goodbye Service

There’s also a special Saying Goodbye Service on Sunday 27th October at 4pm where those who have lost a baby during pregnancy, at birth or in their early years, or for those grieving who have never had a child. You can find out more information on the Saying Goodbye website.

Other Events

The Friends of Bradford Cathedral hold their Annual Lunch at Oakwood Hall on Sunday 20th October. To book your place e-mail them on friends@bradfordcathedral.org.

Our next Bring and Share Lunch takes place on Sunday 20th October at 12noon, which is open to everyone. On Monday 14th October it’s our next Monday Fellowship meeting led by Canon Myra Shackley, and the Women of Faith Book Group is back on Tuesday 29th October meeting at Waterstones at 11am. Our Toddler Group takes place every Friday at 10am and our Carers’ Crafts every Tuesday, also from 10am, and the final Faith Trail of 2019 takes place on Saturday 5th September at 10:15am, leaving from St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Leeds Road.

The Just A Minute group also takes place every Sunday from 11:45am and Silence Space returns on Monday 14th and Monday 28th October at 1pm. Places of Welcome also meets every Wednesday at 2:30pm.
