Education Update

Diocesan Online Youth Pilgrimages

Work has now finished on the diocesan online youth pilgrimages, which launched on Monday October 18th. Bradford, Ripon and Wakefield Cathedrals are each offering an online pilgrimage for young people, with a different theme.

The theme for Bradford Cathedral’s online youth pilgrimage is “The Gifts You Bring”.

The Bradford Cathedral online youth pilgrimage is designed for children and young people aged from 5-16, divided into appropriate key stages. There is a range of topics and activities, allowing the young participants to embark on their own pilgrimage of self-reflection and discovery, exploring their own gifts by learning about the gifts of other Christians.

These include some of the inspirational saints in the Cathedral’s beautiful stained glass windows, influential figures connected with the Cathedral’s past, and young people connected with the Cathedral and Bradford today.

Comment from Canon Paul, Acting Dean of Bradford Cathedral:

Pilgrims, of all ages, are welcome to come, virtually, to Bradford Cathedral to discover more about their God-given gifts. This is a multi-faceted resource that we hope, and pray, will engage students and lead them to be inspired by the different stories they encounter. We encourage virtual pilgrims to visit as many times as they wish. Once will not be enough!”

The welcome return of educational visits

After an 18-month absence, we are delighted that children and young people have started to return to Bradford Cathedral for educational visits. Since visits resumed, we have hosted 5 schools and just under 200 students, ranging from the ages of 7 to 15. For all of the students, it was their first “school trip” in over 2 years, which meant that it was an extra special visit for many of them, with smiles all round and lots of excitement and awe and wonder.

It was wonderful to hear the sound of many youthful voices in the Cathedral once again! Bookings are beginning to come in for winter and spring visits and we hope that many more schools will choose to bring their students back or for a first time visit in the coming months and year.
